PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
I started out in radio in Scotland before training in film sound recording at Shepperton Studios, London. I have gone on to record many documentaries, reality shows, and both TV and cinema drama features and series.

After several years of documentaries I decided to concentrate my career in drama and chose to boom operate to gain more experience.   I was particularly successful on fast moving productions such as the peak-time police series "The Bill" (Thames TV).

On "The Bill" the boom operator is given exceptional responsibility for the sound decisions and this experience has served me well for all forms of high pressure, high quality production since.

I  went on to record  four x 1 hour special episodes of "The Bill" and  I've recorded four feature films, many short films and TV documentaries and also boom operate commercials.   Now based in the Scottish Highlands I find I have returned to 'out and about' documentary which I enjoy very much, even if it does rain a lot!

I am happy to work as recordist, boom operator or OB sound assistant so keeping my hand in with all areas of film and TV location work.

I was privileged to sit on the Skillset expert review panel for Sound Operation Vocational Standards and I had the cheek to write new standards for Single Camera Operation!
I occasionally run training sessions or courses and these can be tailored to fit requirements and budgets.
